It is likely that more novenas are directed to Saint Jude than to any other saint, with the possible exception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Anthony of Padua. As the patron of difficult causes, Saint Jude, one of the 12 Apostles and author of the epistle that bears his name, is known as a powerful intercessor for all those who seek his aid.
There are dozens of novenas to Saint Jude, ranging in length and complexity. This is one of the simplest and shortest. The third paragraph ("We fly to thy patronage . . . ") is itself an ancient prayer to the Blessed Virgin known as the Sub Tuum Praesidium.
Short Novena to Saint Jude
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Blessed be the holy and undivided Trinity, now and forever. Amen.
We fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God, despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us from all dangers, O ever glorious and Blessed Virgin.
V. St. Jude, pray for us,
R. And for all who invoke thy aid.
