Novena of the Week: To the Immaculate Heart of Mary

By June 5, 2012

Follow me on:

The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and devotion to the Sacred Heart is tied closely to devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary—so closely, in fact, that the two feasts are celebrated back to back. The Feast of the Sacred Heart falls 19 days after Pentecost Sunday, and the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is celebrated the next day. In 2012, the feast days are June 15 and June 16, respectively.

So this week, in honor of the upcoming Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I have chosen the Novena to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as our novena of the week. In it, we not only ask for Mary's intercession on our behalf but express our willingness to accept God's will, if something else would be of greater benefit to us. And note how the novena itself ties Mary's Immaculate Heart to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

You should start the novena on the Feast of Corpus Christi (June 7, in 2012) to finish it on the eve of the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

If you have a favorite novena that you'd like me to choose as Novena of the Week, or if you'd like me to suggest a novena for a particular intention, send me an e-mail, and I'll work it into the rotation.
