Sometimes it seems that the Third Person of the Holy Trinity gets short shrift in our prayers. We're used to addressing our more formal prayers to God the Father, through the Son; and in our private prayers, we may turn to Christ more often. But our prayers to the Holy Spirit seem to confined to the period each year around Pentecost, when we pray the traditional Novena to the Holy Ghost, and perhaps throw in a few other prayers to the Holy Spirit for good measure.
But prayer to the Holy Spirit should be a part of our daily prayer life. After all, the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit lie at the heart of the Christian life.
And so this week I have chosen one of the most well-known prayers to the Holy Spirit as our Novena of the Week. As we pray "Come Holy Spirit," let us reflect on the central role that the Holy Spirit plays in our lives.
