1. Religion & Spirituality

Discuss in my forum

The eighth installment of Sunday School ended with the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. But before Christ returned to Heaven to take His place at the right hand of God the Father, He promised the Apostles that He would send His Holy Ghost or His Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Blessed Trinity.

Equal to the Father and the Son in all things, the Holy Spirit is the Divine Person Who animates our lives as Christians. Without the Holy Spirit, the Church would be a merely human organization; with Him, it can fulfill its divine mission to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all, for their salvation.

The Apostles and the Virgin Mary spent nine days in prayer (the first novena) in preparation for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. We, too, receive the Holy Spirit at our Confirmation, at which time we also receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which enable us to live the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

The Holy Spirit will guide the Church and sanctify it until the end of time.

Lesson Ninth from the Confirmation Catechism has 8 questions. Note that the lesson begins with Question 94, continuing with the numbering from Lesson Eighth.

In the First Communion Catechism, the parallel lesson this week is Lesson Eighth. As usual, it is shorter; it includes 4 questions drawn from Lesson Ninth of the Confirmation Catechism.

Check out this week's lesson, and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments or ask them in the Catholicism Forum!
