Election 2008: The Republicans and Embryonic Stem-Cell Research

Sunday September 7, 2008
In every American election for the past 35 years, the chief pro-life issue has been abortion. In the 2008 presidential election, that's likely to be true as well, and next week, we'll take a closer look at the positions on abortion held by the candidates and platforms of both the Republican and Democratic parties.

In this election, however, another life issue looms large: embryonic stem-cell research (ESCR). Over the past week, numerous articles about Sarah Palin have mentioned her opposition to ESCR. But what about John McCain? And how does the Republican platform measure up on this important issue? And most importantly, for Catholic voters, how do their views compare with the Catholic Church's teaching on stem-cell research?

You can read all about it in Where Do John McCain and Sarah Palin Stand on Embryonic Stem-Cell Research? And check back tomorrow, when I will examine the Democratic ticket.
