"Saint Anthony Directs Our Attention to God's Glory"

Share Your Story: How Saint Anthony Helped Me Find a Lost Item

By Catherine Grace

What I Lost

I had lost my Itouch, a gift from my family. Both a valuable memento, but also something that as a student I could not afford to replace.

Why I Prayed to Saint Anthony, and What Happened

I honestly and truly believe in the power of prayer. A while ago, I closed my heart to God after experiencing much difficulty in my life. Only recently have I begun to pray again; this was after I realized that it was not God who left me, but rather I who closed my heart to Him.

I prayed to St Anthony as I truly believed this item was lost forever. I knew that it could not be replaced. I felt like I let my whole family down, and that I was not deserving of expensive things.

I prayer with utter hopelessness and desperation to St. Anthony after I realized that he was the patron of lost Items.

Literally within minutes, my lost item was found.

Advice

  • I often wonder why St. Anthony is helping people. In the "Prayers to St. Anthony for the Restoration of Things Lost or Stolen," I have found the answer. The saint would work for our petitions "if it be to the greater glory of God and to the spiritual benefit of my soul." The granted favors, whether big or small, thus direct our attention to God's glory. As for our souls, he seeks God's blessings in restoring our peace of mind and in banishing anxiety - a major obstacle to our spiritual health

What Prayer Did You Pray to Saint Anthony?

Prayer to St. Anthony for lost items

St. Anthony, perfect imitator of Jesus, who received from God the special power of restoring lost things, grant that I may find (name the lost item) which has been lost.

At least restore to me peace and tranquillity of mind, the loss of which has afflicted me

Scott P. Richert, About.com Catholicism, says:

People often misunderstand why Catholics pray to saints, and why we would think that saints would hear our prayers and intercede for us.. But Catherine Grace is exactly right: The intercession of the saints is for the greater glory of God.
