What I Was Before I Became a Catholic
Methodist then Mormon
Why I Converted to Catholicism
I had been in the Mormon church for ten years and then became ill for several weeks and was unable to attend services. During that time I began to question many of the Mormon beliefs--as if I did not go all the time, common sense took over and I could see the holes in these beliefs.
How I Converted to Catholicism
I was really floundering after I left the Mormon church, felt like I had nowhere to go, as I had visited many of the Protestant churches before I became a Mormon and did not feel that any of them were for me. I got a new job and one of my new coworkers invited me to go to Mass with him, which I refused to do because Catholics were so strange and you had to do all that kneeling and standing and I was afraid I would be embarrassed. He did not pressure me, but kept inviting, so I went one time and it was so beautiful, but I still thought it all too strange. Besides, how could I pray to Mary, and do all the other things Catholics do? But my coworker gently, without pressure, countered all my arguments until I was ready to join. Now my daughter and my grandson are "cradle" Catholics and I have been a devout Catholic for over 20 years.
Advice
- Read all you can. The more you know, the more sense Catholicism makes.
- Don't "not" convert because friends and family think you are strange. You will soon have Catholic friends who will support you.
- Go to Adoration, this has increased my spiritually many times over.
