What I Was Before I Became a Catholic
I was baptized and confirmed as a child in the Methodist church.
Why I Converted to Catholicism
After belonging to the church for over 25 years (my wife is Catholic) and after having four children baptized/confirmed Catholic I was feeling that something was missing. Just attending Mass without fully participating in the Eucharist was leaving an unfulfilled feeling. I noticed that our priest Father William Hembrough inspired me in his homilies just as our original priest did, Father Stanley Maleski, when we were first married. My wife never pressured me to convert but kept our family on track without my help for over 15 years. These are the inspirations that led me to where I am today. Faith, Family and these priests.
How I Converted to Catholicism
My wife's raising of our family Catholic was probably the one biggest aid but her entire family lives the Faith. Not once did anyone try and convert me; it was always there for me when I was ready. I attended instructions with the family priest after we were married but never completed the process due to his death. It wasn't until we joined our current parish (Holy Ghost, Jerseyville, IL) that I again felt the same way as I did with our original priest 26 years ago. Without the right spiritual guidance at home and in the parish I would have never completed my conversion.
Advice
- Find a priest and parish whose views reflect yours both socially and spiritually. If you can find this you will look forward to the classes and wish that they never ended.
