The O Antiphons - The Great Antiphons

The O Antiphons are recited at vespers (evening prayer) and Mass from December 17 to December 23. They are the source of the Advent hymn "O Come O Come Emmanuel" ("Veni, Veni Emmanuel").

The O Antiphon for December 17, "O Wisdom," is drawn from Isaiah 11:2-3 and 28:29.
O Antiphon for December 18
The O Antiphon for December 18, "O Adonai," is drawn from Isaiah 11:4-5 and 33:22.
O Antiphon for December 19
The O Antiphon for December 19, "O Root of Jesse," is drawn from Isaiah 11:1 and 11:10.
O Antiphon for December 20
The O Antiphon for December 20, "O Key of David," is drawn from Isaiah 9:6 and 22:22.
O Antiphon for December 21
The O Antiphon for December 21, "O Dawn of the East," is drawn from Isaiah 9:2.
O Antiphon for December 22
The O Antiphon for December 22, "O King of the Gentiles," is drawn from Isaiah 2:4 and 9:7.
O Antiphon for December 23
The O Antiphon for December 23, "O Emmanuel," is drawn from Isaiah 7:14.
