The only diocesan paper to become a finalist, The Monitor, the biweekly newspaper of the Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey, "covers the latest Catholic news and events in the counties of Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean," and provides "readers with local news from their parishes and schools, as well as information on the diocesan, state, national and international levels."

The National Catholic Register, founded in 1927 and now published by EWTN, proclaims its mission to be to "equip you to engage your world with the life-changing, family-strengthening, Gospel of Jesus Christ," through "an unparalleled combination of journalistic clarity, doctrinal precision and joyful fidelity to the Pope and Magisterium."
