Pope Benedict XVI's prayer intentions for May 2011 may seem unrelated, but they share a common theme: that truth is the foundation of human respect and unity.

Pope Benedict's general prayer intention for May 2011 is "That those working in communication media may respect the truth, solidarity, and dignity of all people." Here at the About.com Catholicism GuideSite, of course, we try to do just that, and you can take part in our activities by signing up for our free Catholicism newsletter, liking the About.com Catholicism page on Facebook, and following your Catholicism Guide on Twitter.

The Holy Father's mission prayer intention for May 2011 is "That the Lord may help the Church in China persevere in fidelity to the Gospel and grow in unity." In 2007, Pope Benedict designated May 24, the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians, as an annual World Day of Prayer for China, and he composed a Prayer to Our Lady of Sheshan for the occasion. (Our Lady Help of Christians is venerated at the Shrine of Sheshan in Shanghai.) This prayer would be a very good choice to unite our prayers this month to the prayer intentions of Pope Benedict XVI.
