The 96th Anniversary of the Apparitions at Fatima

By October 11, 2013

Follow me on:

October 13 marks the 96th anniversary of one of the best-known Marian apparitions--the final appearance of Our Lady of the Rosary at Fatima, Portugal. For six months, always on the 13th day of the month, the Blessed Virgin Mary had appeared to three shepherd children--Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco--asking them to perform penance and to pray, especially the rosary. In the midst of World War I, the Blessed Virgin declared that the rosary would bring about peace.

The sixth and final apparition occurred on October 13, 1917, with approximately 70,000 people from across Portugal and around Europe in attendance. The crowd witnessed what has become known as "The Miracle of the Sun," in which the sun appeared to stand still, then spin in the sky before plunging toward the earth and returning to its place in the heavens. Because of heavy rains earlier in the day, the ground and the crowds were soaked; but after the Miracle of the Sun, everything was dry once again.

The miracle was reported not only by the faithful in attendance but by newspapers and skeptics who had gathered as well. At a time of great trials, the apparitions at Fatima brought increased devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary, and so it is particularly appropriate that the final apparition occurred in the month of October, which Pope Leo XIII had devoted to the rosary 33 years earlier.

A beautiful and amazing miracle. It is only sad that people did not take to the Holy Mother’s words. So much sadness cloud have been avoided.

Even today, we need to pray the Rosary. Espiecally today, were so much madness goes on.

It is sad to see people make mockery and negatve comments abouut Our Blessed Mother. Why do people feel she is not even recognized in he Bible and yet can put up a Nativity at Christmas? She is our mother on earth and the Lord said,” She shall be called Blessed.” and that is a true statement. I watched the Fatima Movie and cried!! I know whe is real and also trying to Interceed to GOD for our Nation, but we are not waking up to what is being said by her. It is hard for me to even talk o others about her because they think she is an Idol, and made up in the Catholic Church as something sinfull. I am saddened by all of the and one day all the people on earth will see her with her son in heaven. mary

I’ve wondered fo myself for a long time now what the non-Catholic Christian world makes of the historical reported events of what was witnessed at Fatima.
You’d think Evangelicals, Baptists, Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists and even Jewish people-Rabbi’s-can’t blow these things off so easily as all being some big fake mass hysteria when confronted with the historical accounts.
If I was a religion journalist I think it would be fascinating to do a full scale research and investigation project and find out just exactly how a lot of these more well known ministers of all these others faiths think about Fatima and confront them with the historical facts on what was reported by the eyewitnesses, and see then how they can just blow off the Catholic Church so easily on this matter.

It would be great if groups of people pray the Holy Rosary daily for the consecration of Russia by Holy Father, Pope Francis.

Thank you to all who gave their testimonies. I know God and
I know Mother Mary but at times when life bemecos heavy I doubt.
Mother Mary October is here. Please listen to so many hail Marys
and protect my sisters, brothers and our children. We are gifted in
so many ways and more and more people hate us. Mother put your
hands between them and us so that they cannot harm us.
