In June 2008, the
Sacrament of Communion played a central role in a number of the top stories, including questions on the relationship between Communion and the
Sacrament of Confession, the denial of Communion to a legal scholar who endorsed Barack Obama, and Pope Benedict's efforts to restore the traditional method of receiving Communion. Rumors that President Bush might convert to Catholicism and that the Society of St. Pius X might be reconciled to the Catholic Church were accompanied by increasingly warm relations between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, brought about in part by Pope Benedict's restoration of the
Traditional Latin Mass.
