Free Audio Dramatization of the Gospel of John

Thursday November 6, 2008
This week, iTunes is offering a free audio dramatization of the New King James Version (NKJV) Gospel of John (link will take you to the iTunes store in iTunes). It features a rather impressive collection of actors, including Jim Caviezel as Jesus (of course), Michael York, Richard Dreyfuss, Marisa Tomei, Stacy Keach, Louis Gossett, Jr., Terence Stamp, Lou Diamond Phillips, Luke Perry, and John Schneider.

This isn't just a reading of the Gospel but a full-scale dramatization, including an original music score by Italian composer Stefano Mainetti and "movie quality sound effects." It is one in a series entitled The Word of Promise New Testament Audio Bible, published by Thomas Nelson. (The other books of the New Testament are available for $1.95 each.)

I've listened to a portion of the dramatization of the Gospel of John, and I'm not sure it's my cup of tea. I find the acting, music, and sound effects distracting. It might, however, be a good way to get your children interested in listening to the New Testament, and at two hours and 51 minutes, it's certainly worth downloading this free file for your next long trip in the car.

N.B.: You will need an iTunes account. When you create an account, iTunes will ask you for a credit-card number for future purchases. This download, however, is free; you will not be charged for it.
