I really like this statue. It doesn’t look very tall – but maybe the vase next to it is huge?
St. Joseph is a very inspiring saint for military families – look how many times he had to move to new places – and is a powerful intercessor in times of financial stress.
Thanks for sharing this with us, Scott.
What a great image to lead into contemplation. Thank you.
Interesting picture. Where was it taken?
Many of my dressers are home to statues of saints and religious figurines — from Saint Anthony to Madonna. This is reminiscent of what you see in many Italian and Italian American homes. Thanks for sharing!
Wonderful statue and so well preserved! It looks as if it could have been created yesterday.
Nancy, the statue is probably a little over three feet tall. The vase is creating something of an optical illusion–it’s actually a bit to the side and back of the statue, but the angle at which I took the photo makes it look like it’s in front.
Pamela, I took this photo in the Lourdes Grotto at St. Mary’s Oratory in Rockford, Illinois (our home church). I have some other photos from the grotto that will show up over the next few months.
Depending on which browser you use, you should be able to place the mouse pointer over the picture, wait a minute, and a description will appear with the details of the photo. (That’s true for all of my Wordless Wednesday photos.)
Francesca, you might be interested to know that, every March, we have a St. Joseph Altar at St. Mary’s. I was in the kitchen making the spaghetti sauce this year, so I didn’t get photos, but I intend to get a nice image gallery out of it next year.
