Interesting perspective Christ looking down at the photographer looking up. From an artist viewpoint it appears the sculpture was made from a model lying down flat. I would think there would be so much more stress on the limbs then is apparent.
I can’t help but feel by the level of skill, that it is deliberate on the part of the artist to portray less suffering and more compassion so the effect on the viewer evokes
less raw emotion and more spirtual empathy.
That’s an interesting observation, Sukhmandir. The Corpus is actually very traditional, which means that your remark applies to crucifixes in general. Since the first representations of the Crucifixion were icons, and it’s very hard to get that stress on the limbs across in a two-dimensional representation, that may have something to do with how the Corpus has been portrayed.
