Pancakes and Politics

Tuesday February 5, 2008
It's Pancake Day, and for the last three years, the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) has helped celebrate this last day of feasting before Lent by giving each customer a free short stack (three pancakes). IHOP's National Pancake Day Celebration raises funds for the Children's Miracle Network and other local charities; in 2007, IHOP brought in more than $625,000 nationwide.

Before you rush off to the local IHOP, however, please note: Because of the Super Tuesday presidential primaries in 24 states, which fall on the traditional date of Pancake Day, IHOP has moved its celebration of Pancake Day 2008. In an announcement on its website, the company stated:

In 2008, Fat Tuesday falls on February 5, which also happens to be Super Tuesday, on which a record number of states will hold their Presidential primaries. In the interest of embracing the democratic process, IHOP has postponed its celebration of National Pancake Day by one week, and will give away free pancakes on February 12.

So go out and vote today, and mark your calendars for next week. You can find the location of the nearest IHOP by clicking here.
