The Home Stretch of Lent

Thursday March 29, 2007

As we come up on Palm Sunday and Holy Week, now is a good time to take stock of our Lenten practice. It's never too late to prepare ourselves for Easter.

If you haven't been able to keep up with the spiritual readings for Lent, the fifth week of Lent provides a good point for jumping back in. The readings this week are from the Letter to the Hebrews, and they provide a nice summary of the Old Testament passages from the earlier weeks of Lent, as well as an interpretation of those passages in light of the new revelation of Christ. If you've often wondered what exactly the relationship is between Moses and Jesus, or Israel of the Old Testament and the Church of the New, let St. Paul (traditionally identified as the author of Hebrews) be your guide.
